Hassocks Amenity Association Save Lag Wood Update
Friday, 26 October 2012
Help Save Lag Wood
SAVE LAGG WOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY
URGENT ACTION NEEDED
Lag Wood will be auctioned on Tuesday morning (30th October). This is a last ditch attempt to enable everyone to continue to access this ancient, protected woodland with its unique chalk stream. Hassocks children have played there for generations. In the Spring, the wild flowers are breathtaking. For walkers, it's a popular short local stroll.
The guide price is £80,000 to £100,000. The first £10,000 has already been raised through HAA members. We need at least contributions of another £70,000 to make a serious bid.

“LIFE IN HASSOCKS” PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION LAUNCHED
Residents of Hassocks are being asked to get out and about with their cameras this spring so that their village can be lit up at Christmas.
A Life in Hassocks photographic competition has been launched by the Light Up Hassocks Committee in order to raise funds for this year's festive light display. A calendar will be produced and sold in local shops with the proceeds going to Light Up Hassocks. Photos might be of a favourite place or view, a community event or local people. They can be taken in any season. Images should simply reflect life in Hassocks. There will be twelve winning photos: one for each month and these, together with some of the runners up, will be printed in the calendar.
The deadline for submitting photos is Tuesday 8th May 2012. Entry forms can obtained from Orion News in Hassocks or online at www.facebook.com/LightUpHassocks
where the full Terms & Conditions are shown. We need two copies of each entry: a 5"x7" print (to be returned to Orion News or posted to 5 Clayton Park, Hassocks BN6 8JQ) and a digital image which should be e-mailed to lightuphassocks@hotmail.co.uk. Both submissions should have a title and the full contact details of the photographer. People can enter up to four photos before the deadline of Tuesday 8th May 2012. Full terms and conditions on the Light Up Hassocks – Its Christmas Facebook page or people can e-mail lightuphassocks@hotmail.co.uk."
The winners will be notified in mid July but shortlisted photos will be on display at The Hassocks Hotel during the next fundraiser for Light Up Hassocks, a Family Treasure Hunt on Saturday 2nd June.

The Brighton & Hove Retired Greyhound Trust
Brighton Greyhound Owners Association – Retired Greyhound Trust – Kennels Open Day on Sunday 10th June 2012 from 11.00am to 2.00pm. at New House Farm, Twineham Lane, Twineham, RH17 5NP.
Please come and meet the team, see the work that we do, and most importantly greet the greyhounds.
You may also like to consider giving one of the gorgeous hounds their 'forever home'. Light refreshments will be available.
The open day is for humans only, as the kennel dogs could get a little upset if loads of hounds turn up on their patch.
Please see the website for more information about the work of the RGT.
